My feel-good self-care practices

Published on March 24, 2026•Updated on October 15, 2026

General things that help me feel good

  • Phone regulation
What this means is that I put down my phone at 8PM, and pick it up after having eaten breakfast. It also means no TikTok or Instagram on my phone.
  • Focus on a regular and consistent sleep pattern
Ideally in bed by 9.30PM, a bit of reading and asleep by 10PM. Wake-up time between 6.30AM and 7AM during the week.
  • Intuitive eating
When I'm relaxed I am quite good at feeling my body, knowing when I'm full and knowing which foods will fuel me best at which moments. This can also mean sweet things when I'm craving those. I never weigh myself, except when this is medically required. I'm very much pro body neutrality.
  • Movement, exercise, stretching
Doing padel, fitness, running, yoga. Walking a lot. Going by bike.
  • Time for myself, time for hobbies, time for friends
Less planning and more spontaneous get-togethers. Plenty of room to rest. To play.
  • Writing
I like to write in a stream of consciousness (also called free writing). This is what happens when I don't focus on a topic or opinion, but freely write every thought that crosses my mind and let this ramble on until my mind feels calm and at peace. I use Ensõ⤴ or Obsidian or my journal.

Other ones that I dabble in every so often:

  • Breathwork
  • Cold showers (and ideally saunas but currently not)

Calming down my nervous-system

More mentally (and spiritually) I'm focusing more on calming down my nervous system. I have a tendency to feel very rushed and stressed, and this leads to stress piling up in my body and giving me all these little aches.

It's important for me to remember that urgency is a myth. I'm not running out of time. What helps me is to physically slow down. To do all the things I'm doing like cooking, cleaning, walking, etc just a bit slower.

Lamb jumping in field

Similarly, being annoyed by something is a choice. The way you respond to things is the way you live your life. Situations might turn out different than expected, but that's also life.
