Gender gap in tech

Published on January 16, 2026•Updated on October 12, 2026

Women are mass majority of victims of deep fake pornography online. The objectification of women might be one of the core pillars of AI. The first ASCII picture was a nude. The first JPEG was a Playboy model. The first advancements in video and image compression were because pornography needed to be played faster at a lower bandwidth.

Because of women's natural reluctance to use AI, the vast majority of the AI workforce are men, so the vast majority of people training the models are man. Implying that the models are trained with a gender bias.

This can affect AI hiring tools and how your medical data might be processed.

There's more of a call for women to take an active role in the AI industry, or else the future in infrastructure of the internet will be built on these existing biases

Women's critical perspective on AI should be necessary in the conversation at a time when mass adoption seems to be the only choice.

The idea of weak perfection, popularized by the AI journalist Jacob Ward: there's a big importance on making things inefficient, because things can have LARGE consequences.

Women's slower adaption of AI could be a suggestion to become a little less impatient when it comes to the difference between decision and action on the internet.
